What is Happiness?

Happiness is a feeling of pleasure and positivity. When someone feels good, proud, relieved or satisfied about something, that person is said to be “happy”. Feeling happy may help people to relax and to smile.

Happiness is usually thought of as the opposite of sadness. However, it is possible to feel both at once, often about different things, or sometimes even about the same thing.

Many philosophers have said that people in the world go back and forth between times of happiness and sadness, but there is nobody who is always happy or always sad. Happiness sometimes causes people to cry when they laugh because the emotion takes control of them. Happiness was thought of as the key to love in ancient civilizations such as the Incas and the Mayans.

The greatest misconception of all is that happiness is a feeling. This is wrong because that amazing feeling is just dopamine being released in your head. Happiness is a state of mind that may attain if one desires so.

How To Be Happy?

We all want to be happy about everything and want nothing to knock us down. We all want to be positive so here are 5 Interesting Ways to Be Happy!:

 

Smiling:

Fake it till you make it! For some reason, if we just smile for no reason at all we feel loads better. Try it now. There is scientific proof that when we smile regardless of what mood we are in we feel happier. Smile whenever you can, after all, what do you have to lose? Smiling releases endorphins, which are linked to pain relief, and serotonin, which is linked to happy feelings. Remember to always smile to be in a state of happiness, do not smile in hope that it may be returned from another.

Take care:

  1. Exercise is great because it gets your body in shape, you lose fat and you can build strength and endurance. This is what we know about exercise but exercise is proven to give off endorphins in your brain that promote happiness. Yourself- esteem also increases when people start complimenting you on how great you look, it makes you feel great about yourself.
  2. Diet is very important because it is the main contributor to how you look in the long term and how you feel. Making smart choices about your food intake and being specific about it will allow your body to function at a higher level and the nutrition that the food gives you helps to prevent fatigue and exhaustion.
  3. Get tons of Sleep! Research has shown that people who sleep more have a major increase in their productivity levels, they are often in a happy mood and this steady flow results in success (wealth). Sleep is vital for the body and most of the bodies fundamental processes of growing and building occurs at night. The recommended amount of sleep is between 6-8, you should push for 8.

Take care of your body and it will love you. Treat your body like someone you love a lot and in return, your body will leave you feeling great and left in awe due to admiration for it.

Gratitude:

Expressing gratitude and maintaining a positive mindset and outlook on life is the key to happiness. A good practice is to wake up in the morning and remind yourself of all the things that you are thankful for. This will greatly elevate your mood and it is an amazing, if not perfect way to begin your day. Another practice that you can implement into your lifestyle is keeping a gratitude journal to remind you of all the things you have and should be thankful for.

Our brains are conditioned to think negatively and think of the worst case scenario because our brain is under the impression that we living in an environment that will harm us so it feels the need to instill fear in us in the hopes that we will stay alive. We have practised this kind of thinking so much that we are practically masters, the good news is, is that if we constantly practice positive thinking we will become masters in this too.

Meditation

The very act of meditation clears the mind, gives you clarity in your thinking and increases your feelings of empathy and compassion. You could essentially become a loving bundle of joy just by meditating. Meditating can work wonders for you, science has proved that regular meditation causes permanent changes in the brain that are associated with being in a state of happiness.

There are many forms of meditation. Many people think it’s just the act of sitting down in silence and trying to become thoughtless, sadly this is not the case. You could do tai chi, breathing, fishing, reading, cycling and even chanting meditation. These are all forms of meditation, whatever clears your mind is a great place to start.

Mindset

Happiness is a choice, it is a state of mind that is acquired not a mood that is triggered. Once you understand that happiness is completely your choice then you will attain the state of happiness more often. “It’s all in the mind” and that is fundamentally true because we often do what we base our beliefs on. There is nothing wrong with this, however, one would require the correct belief or rather a belief that can be attached to reason so that we may cultivate the right actions.

Practice mindfulness. The topic mindfulness is very broad and large but in this post we will focus on the thought aspect. Your mind is like a living space, you wouldn’t want to live in filth so why would you live in a contaminated mind. Constantly practice a mindset that is in love with everything it has and a mindset that ‘no matter what’ turns every negative situation into a positive one.

Often time we may see negativity, we must empathize and do our part, not ignore. This means helping old people, giving food to the poor, putting trash in the bin. At the end of the day when you sum up your good deeds I guarantee there is no greater feeling of contentment knowing that you made someone’s life better.
